I'm an American-born Brazilian, raised in a family where this isn't theory- it is life. This reality runs through my whole family. My grandmother was deeply involved in the rituals. She was a trusted spiritual guide and respected for her counsel.
She made traditional ritual items in a workshop behind her house with the help of my aunt, uncle, and mother- and my mother out in the community selling and delivering to Candomblé shops.
Trapshirt exists to celebrate the Orixás and the culture that has stayed alive in Brazil for 500 years through devotion, resistance, and community.
Every design is built around meaning- so you can learn while you wear. From daily ritual to Carnaval, this is a living reality. These designs are my way of honoring what I come from and sharing it through wearable art you can carry with you every day.
Every design is structured with intention. They feature the Orixá's name and a symbolic image that reflects their colors, attire, residence, and tools.
Beneath that is their salutation.
The salutation is a greeting of honor- by wearing it or speaking it, you are opening your path to that Orixá's presence in your life.
Following that is a description of who they are along with three core qualities that they will bring into your life.
